Monsoon is about to arrive shortly and we are eagerly waiting for this scorching summer to end! The arrival of the rainy season also encourages us to plan our Monsoon gateways. Our beautiful country has countless places where one can go to experience breathtaking views, during the rainy months. It’s the time of the year when everything around us looks refreshed and vibrant. The lakes overflow, the mountains wear lush green covers and once more, we fall in love with India! Here are some inspirations for you, if you are planning your Monsoon gateways:

Kodaikanal: This popular hill town in Tamilnadu is fondly called “Princess of Hill Stations”. Situated atop the Palani hills of western ghat, Kodaikanal has it all! Enthralling waterfalls, lakes and lush green valleys and spectacular views of the mountains, make this an ideal Monsoon destination. Consider taking a train so that you can catch renowned places en route as well, such as Vijaywada, Vishakhapatnam, Gudur, Chennai etc.

How to reach: The nearest airports are Madurai (135 km), Coimbatore (170 km) and Trichy (200 km). Kodaikanal is also accessible via road; it is about 450 km from Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Palani.

Coorg: Coorg in Karnataka is known for its stunning mountains, dense forests and also showcases a wide variety of flora and fauna. This hill station is a perfect gateway for nature lovers, families and backpackers, alike. Be ready to be mesmerized by many waterfalls, lakes, coffee plantations and delicious local cuisines.

How to reach: Munnar is130.1 km via road from Cochin via NH49. The nearest railway stations to Munnar are Aluva and Ernakulam. The nearest airports are Cochin (110 km) and Madhurai international airport (140 km).

Shillong: From south of India if we look towards the north-east part of India, we would be spoilt for choice. Among other spectacular places, Shillong is surely going to rank high up on our list. Shillong, Meghalaya receives one of the heaviest rainfalls in India. This picturesque town is set against the valleys of Khasi and Jayanti hills and is home to numerous waterfalls,

How to reach: Guwahati is the closest railway station from Shillong which is about 100 km away and cabs are easily available all the time. Guwahati has also an airport, so if you are planning to take a flight, that is also very much possible.
