It will not be an exaggeration to say that most of us own at least a pair of jeans, making denim one of the most popular fabrics in our wardrobes today. In today’s time, many fashion brands manufacture and/or sell a number of attires made from denim.

Here are a few interesting facts about Denim:

As per popular belief, Denim was first invented in Genoa, Italy, as early back as the 1500s. It is believed that Denim was made for the Italian navy to wear while on duty. Though the Italians were the first to make it, the material came from a French city called Nimes, ‘De Nimes’, which means ‘from Nimes’ in English.

The most common Denim is indigo Denim. This type of Denim is recognized by its specific dark color. To make indigo Denim, manufacturers dye the warp thread a dark blue color while leaving the weft thread white.

In earlier times, during the time of World War II, Jeans for men had the regular style which is the zipper being in front, but for women, the zipper was placed on the right side. Later on, it was switched and stitched it back to the front.

The oldest pair of Jeans ever to be made was a Levi Strauss & Co. 501 Jeans, which is believed to be about one hundred and fifteen years old. It was discovered in the year 1997 and auctioned in the year 2005. An anonymous Japanese collector bought it for $60,000. Want to know which one is the most expensive one? It’s the Dussault Apparel’s Trashed Denim Jeans which is priced at $250,000.
